A hip and contemporary residence in Punchbowl

Photos courtesy of Sachi Hawaii

I love the Punchbowl area—I grew up in nearby Nuuanu—as it is a older, quiet neighborhood with older, kamaaina-style homes. If you’re looking to move here, though, you'll often find these older homes are often very dated. This newish listing on Huali Street gets you into the neighborhood, but with a super contemporary look.

This home was built in 1992 and features very sophisticated design, both inside and out. The 2,352-square-foot residence sits on a 3,456-square-foot lot, so it’s ideal for someone looking for low upkeep on the yard—almost as good as condo living, but at least you have the option to grow your own herb garden.

Since it’s split-level, it feels like a four-story home: the garage is on the ground level, with one bedroom and bath. The second level has the living room, kitchen, entryway and laundry. The third level has one bedroom and bath. The master bedroom, master bath and den (or guest bedroom) is on the fourth level.

Several realtors have said this artistically designed house has a “San Francisco” feel to it with its open floor plan, art gallery walls, exposed concrete pillars and high ceilings.

“This property is an extraordinary opportunity to own a high-end home nearby downtown Honolulu,” says Jacob Coash of Sachi Hawaii Pacific Century Properties. “It's spacious, luxurious and architecturally pleasing, all while offering the allure of low upkeep and maintenance of the nearby condominiums that are popular with executives.”

The home across the street was built by the same architect—click here to see a photo taken from inside this listing—so make sure you go to the right house when you check it out. (Click here for more details.)
