Penthouse living in Metro Honolulu

Condo living usually has its limitations: most units are uniform, finite boxes. Not so with the penthouses at Royal Court, right on Ward Ave.

One of the four Royal Court penthouses recently came on the market (click here for details), giving us a rare glimpse at the unique units there.  The penthouse we visited features a dramatic, nautilus-like staircase-yes, it's got two floors-and a private, 1,075-square-foot garden lanai with a koi pond.

The unit itself is spacious, with 2,055 square feet of living area, three bedrooms, and 2.5 baths. The kitchen appliances are European, very sleek and functional. There's even a steam sauna in the unit.

Considering the square footage, the décor and location, it's well priced. The building is 40 years old, but the penthouse unit itself is remodeled and upgraded like new.

You almost forget you're living in a condominium, until you look out to the panoramic views of Honolulu from above.

Money talk: $1,375,000 fee simple
