Kahala home with contemporary elegance
Last week, I talked about some Kahala homes that were having sunset brokers' opens. They're all nice, as Kahala homes are, but one stood out-the design was open and elegant, with the ambience of a mini-resort.
It's no wonder it had a very distinct Island atmosphere; it was designed by renowned architect Jeffrey Long, who has created some of the most amazing homes around Hawaii.
The property is located on Onaha St., which is wide and has ample street parking—a good sign if you're into entertaining. It's a corner lot, which gave Long a lot to work with—12,027 square feet—in creating a private oasis.
The dramatic, 25-foot ceilings and the unusual spiral staircase add visual space and energy to the classically stylish interior. Long pulled the casual and colorful elements of the outdoors into the home with huge, gorgeous sliding doors that lead to the lanai, pool and lush tropical landscaping.
"With the 10-foot Sapele mahogany pocketing doors, this home perpetuates the client's desire for indoor-outdoor living, while the corner lot provides the necessary privacy and an enhanced pool and landscape area," Long says.
There's 4,877 square feet of living area in the two-story residence, which comprises four bedrooms, 4.5 bathrooms, a home theater and an exercise room. High-quality materials, such as African mahogany, travertine marble and granite were used in building this six-year old home.
The kitchen features Sub Zero, Wolf and Thermador appliances, as well as a 300-bottle wine refrigerator.
"Natural light is infused throughout the home and the large windows provide energy-saving benefits as well as further connections to the tropical gardens," Long adds. (Click here for details.)
