Open house pick of the week: The Arbors in Ewa
The planned, suburban communities on the west side of Oahu are increasingly popular as they offer nice, new homes at relatively affordable prices. The homes follow their developers' standard design, though, so you often end up with a home that looks like all your neighbors'.
The exception is if you're an artist or interior designer and can create unique elements inside your home to stand out from the rest, as Paul and Donna Sakamoto have done with theirs at The Arbors. (Click here for details.)
Paul is a former commercial artist-so notable, he was featured in Island Home Magazine for his work with Coke, Seiko and numerous homes in Kahala and Hawaii Loa Ridge. Donna works for INspiration Design and Furniture and used her home decorating expertise to create custom touches, as well.
The first things you see are the Greek doric columns in the front entry area and the eclectic accessories. In the Japanese garden outside, you'll find a sculpture that Paul designed, which is included in the sale of the home.
Every room in this 1,526-square-foot residence reflects their artistic talent in some way. There are two bedrooms and bathrooms upstairs, and one bedroom and bathroom downstairs-in which Paul designed the etching on the glass shower door.
The home will be open this Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. so you can see it yourself. It's at 91-1132 Laaulu St., Unit 14E; dial #282 at the guest entry gate.
Happy house hunting!
