Open house pick of the week: Waikiki

People often associate living in Waikiki with tourists and snowbirds, but this unit at 2121 Ala Wai looks like something any kamaaina would be happy to settle into. When you check it out this Sunday, you'll see that it's been completely remodeled, right down to the electrical and plumbing. (Click here for details.)

The 653-square-foot unit was totally gutted and redone, with all new koa (yes, koa) veneer hardwood floors, new appliances and granite countertops. The kitchen is a little small, but the renovations gave it a more bright, open feel and maximizes the space that it has.

Even the bathroom was completely redone, with a modern glass shower, custom cabinets, fixtures and tile.

This is only one of three available two-bedroom listings in this building, and it's on a high floor. The fourth available listing has three bedrooms, in the penthouse.

Compared to other, newer condos, 2121 Ala Wai has a relatively low maintenance fee. There's a pool, sauna and barbecue area, and it's a secure building. But this unit is definitely the nicest of the ones available due to the thoughtful renovation.

Happy house hunting!
