Open house pick of the week: Kaneohe

You won’t find cookie-cutter homes in Ahuimanu; the residences were pretty much built with direction from their original owners. This very vertical home in the area—nicknamed “the treehouse” for its unusual design and its being amongst the trees—is a nice example of that originality. (Click here for details.)

As you can see from the exterior shot, it’s 3.5 stories high, comprising three bedrooms and two bathrooms in 1,300 square feet of living area. As a result, the rooms are lofty and have high vaulted ceilings. Two of the bedrooms, in fact, overlook the whole interior, which is a fun element.

The nickname also comes from the abundance of wood throughout the interior, which is rare in Hawaii. The current owners, who are from Maryland, had fallen in love with it precisely because it looks like homes from their area.

Outside, there are trees surrounding the home, so you’re surrounded by greenery. There’s also a stream in the back of the 10,432-square-foot property, so the views include the Koolaus and waterfalls.

The home was built in 1986 and upgraded in 2009 with stainless steel appliances, granite counters, mahogany cabinets and a tile backsplash.
