Affordable townhouse in Kailua

Since I’m a recent transplant to the island of Oahu, I’ve always considered Kailua to be off-limits in terms of affordable real estate. After a few months of contributing to this blog, I found that’s not the case and this townhouse is a great example. Click here for details.

This two-bedroom, two-bathroom unit at Hokulani in Kailua is at a terrific price for first-time buyers. It’s location is right in the heart of town, so if you’re the type that has a pedometer strapped to your waist, you can walk anywhere – the beach, the bank, restaurants, or even the new Whole Foods (about 10 minutes away).

“The neighborhood is such a nice neighborhood in Kailua,” says realtor Glenn Ikeda of Prudential Advantage Realty. “It’s so close to shopping. You’re really buying the location.”

Within the past two years, the owners renovated just about everything in the 814-square-foot home – new sinks, countertops, kitchen cabinets, appliances and flooring.

Being on the ground floor, you’ll have no steps to climb when you’re hauling lots of groceries home or if your elderly Aunty and Uncle come to visit.

Get ready to host family cookouts, the barbecue and kids’ play areas are right nearby as is visitor parking. One covered parking stall is included in the price.

Fuzz factor: Pets are allowed, but you’ll need to check with the resident manager for specifics.

Even though it’s only been on the market eight days, there’s already an offer, so you’d better act fast if you want put your name in the hat.

Money talk: $385,000 fee simple
