Open house pick of the week: Kakaako

If you want to live close to downtown but just far enough from the congestion to be less noisy, Royal Capitol Plaza may be a good choice. There are currently only two units available in the building, of which one is open this Sunday. (Click here for details.)

Residents can use the spacious recreation deck, pool, sauna, whirlpool, barbecue area, exercise room and meeting area. The parking garage is secure with a locked lobby and a 24-hour security guard. Unfortunately for you pet lovers, the building does not allow dogs. (I didn’t see any rules about cats, though, so you may want to inquire.)

The listing I’m looking at is an 896-square-foot, two-bedroom, two-bathroom designer-remodeled unit on the 17th floor. It’s got granite countertops, stainless steel appliances and DeWils solid cherry wood cabinets in the kitchen and bathroom, all sparklingly immaculate.

It’s located on the fringe of the 96813 district, and, depending on where you work downtown, you could probably walk. It’s walkable to all the hip new places in Kakaako, as well as to events such as Eat The Street. In fact, the building gets a whopping 94 points on Walkscore.com, which is exceptionally high.

Since it’s a corner unit, there are dramatic views of the parks, city skyline, and the coastline. You get a covered, ground floor parking stall, located in a prime spot just past the secured garage entrance.

It’s open for the first time this Sunday from 2 to 5 pm. Happy house hunting!
