Rare Nuuanu estate

Photos courtesy of Prudential Locations

It’s not enough that this architect-designed home is in Nuuanu, overlooking the fifth hole of Oahu Country Club. The estate is almost an acre, which means you could do some of your own practice golf swings and probably not bother anyone. (Click here for details.)

This listing, located down a private lane off Pali Highway, features beautifully manicured tropical gardens on a 42,472-square-foot lot. The landscaping, in fact, helps provide a layer of privacy, especially around the pool area.

The two-story residence, built in 1983, was designed by architect Ed Sullam—a protege of Vladimir Ossipoff—with five bedrooms and three bathrooms. One of Sullam’s signature details is having screened lanais, which are found throughout the home—a nice touch to help residents enjoy the views and cool valley breezes.

The second-floor bedroom is one of the spots with such a screened lanai, which is used as an office nook. I’m not sure how one can concentrate on work, though, since that office has a view of the Koolau mountains and the golf course.

The classic design has timeless finishes, in keeping with many kamaaina homes in the area. The living room, for example, has ohia wood floors, coffered ceilings, and a fireplace. (You may not think you need a fireplace in Hawaii, but many Nuuanu residents do use theirs during the winter months.)

Money talk: $3,825,000 fee simple
