First open at Dowsett Point

Even after all these years, people wonder about Dowsett Point, that architectural wonder that seems to grow out of the side of Punchbowl. Units in this building rarely become available, maybe due to its convenience to town and the freeway access.

A one-bedroom unit just listed, and its first open is this coming Sunday. At 771 square feet, it's quite a bit larger than most one-bedroom condos in metro Honolulu. On top of that, it's been refurbished with new paint, carpet, draperies, tub and shower, screens and appliances. (Click here for details.)

The bedroom, bathroom and living room are all very spacious, but you may want to check out the galley kitchen, which is adequate but possibly not ideal for creating an entire Thanksgiving banquet.

Since it's on the side of the mountain, there's not a lot to block your view on the open side (unlike living in the Ala Moana area). It's also tucked away from the main roads, so, although it's easy to get to, it's also very quiet.

On the Prospect St. side, the building has a parklike setting, so you can enjoy greenery and openness. You also get a pool and tennis court to keep you active with friends and neighbors.

Since it's an older building, the price is considered to be an "affordable" alternative for people who want to live in town but don't have the funds for a newer condo.
