Own a piece of Diamond Head history…sort of

The famous "Hello Kitty house" before 2011

Anyone who’s frequented Kahala Avenue over the years will remember the brazenly pink house with the Hello Kitty and Mickey Mouse decorations out front. Did you know that it sold for about $1.3 million last year? (It was the address that made it so prestigious, not the color.)

That owner was an older Japanese woman with a strong passion for pink: Everything inside and out was pink, even the rocks outside. When she had a garage sale, everything on sale was pink. I wonder where she lives now? I guess that’s another story for another day.

The current owners bought it as an investment property and completely remodeled, upgraded, repainted and landscaped until there wasn’t a speck of pink or Hello Kitty left. (Actually, there's some pink in the bathroom, but that is newly installed.) The home also features laminate wood flooring and all-new appliances.

The corner lot is 7,984 square feet and the residence has 2,206 square feet of living area, all on one level. With six bedrooms and three bathrooms, there are options for creating an office, theater room or gym.

There are currently tenants in the house, so you’ll need to get an appointment to see it, but there will be a broker’s open tomorrow from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. (Click here for details.)

Money talk: $1,688,000 fee simple
