Welcome to Honolulu Real Estate

Walk up to any group of friends or coworkers chatting in Hawaii and there’s a good chance they’re talking about real estate. This is an incredibly beautiful, incredibly expensive place to live, so we’re naturally fixated on homes, apartments, rents, mortgages and more. When we do real estate covers, they seem to fly off the newsstand (see, for example, this month’s issue, “The 25 Most Expensive Homes IN Hawaii,” in bookstores now).

That’s why we’ve created this new blog at HONOLULU Magazine—Honolulu Real Estate. Here you’ll find daily stories about great open houses, remarkable properties, as well as advice you can use whether you’re buying or selling, owning or renting or just here browsing. Send us your pressing real estate questions at, and we’ll do our best to get you an answer.

I’m thrilled to introduce our real estate writer, Jenny Quill, who you may recognize from the pages of HONOLULU Magazine, where she’s written cover stories for our Private School Guide and such features as last year’s “Hawaii’s Most Endangered Places.”

Quill started in the magazine business in 2001, as an associate editor for Arizona Foothills Magazine, an affluent lifestyle publication based in Scottsdale, AZ. While there, she edited and contributed to Arizona Foothills Magazine, Custom Homes Magazine, an annual architecture and interior design publication and two in-room hotel magazines, one for The Boulders Resort & Golden Door Spa and the other for The Biltmore Resort in Phoenix. She moved to Hawaii in 2005, and joined us at PacificBasin Communications as an associate editor for HONOLULU Magazine and managing editor of Ala Moana Magazine, the custom shopping publication produced for Ala Moana Center. From there, she was promoted to editor of PacificBasin's custom-publishing division, which included Ala Moana Magazine, Whalers Village Magazine and Ward Centers Magazine. Since 2009, she’s been a contributing writer for such publications as HONOLULU Magazine, Alaska Airlines Magazine, Modern Luxury Hawaii, Estates West Magazine and Draft Magazine.

Welcome, Jenny. And welcome to you, our readers. Enjoy, and happy house hunting!
