Flight of Fancies

Estrela Designs lands exclusively at Muumuu Heaven

Lei Chic

Ladies, welcome to Styleopolis. The local time is 24:07.

Please remain seated until the fashionable belt sign is turned off. As we taxi the runway, turn your attention to Estrela Designs, one of the stunning new jewelry lines available at this destination.

The line is piloted by Kailua resident Kristin Ahlgren. The 39-year-old Kalaheo High School graduate worked as a flight attendant in San Diego until she and her husband moved back to Hawaii to raise a family.

Ahlgren's designs reflect her extensive world travels: Bold yet ethereal statement earrings with blue chalcedony crystals. A long iridescent necklace with slivers of rainbow titanium quartz crystal. Nuggets of black tourmaline raw crystal accented by a gold-filled bar that she cuts, solders and hammers herself.

Ahlgren started making jewelry for herself after taking an introductory class at Bead It! and metals classes at the Honolulu Museum of Art School. She got so many compliments that a business naturally took flight.

You can view Estrela Designs once we disembark. Simply follow the signs to Muumuu Heaven and claim a few pieces for yourself. If you have a connecting flight, they'll serve you well, wherever your final destination may be.

$72-97, available at Muumuu Heaven, 767 Kailua Rd., Suite 100, (808) 263-3366.
