Most Wanted - May 2012

Lei Chic

The Fashion Police is issuing an all-points bulletin for the Lei Chic team. This crew is notorious for crimes of fashion. Its latest violation: overshopping.

For the past four weeks, undercover detectives have followed its members from store to store. Surveillance photos show them casing window displays and chatting up sales clerks before moving in for the big bill.

If you know the whereabouts of any of these individuals, contact the Fashion Police immediately.

Warning: Suspects may be charmed and dangerous.

Lei Chic Suspect: Brie
Style description: If Marc Jacobs married Zooey Deschanel - Feminine fashion-forward silhouettes with a vintage spin.

Lei Chic On a recent Target run, I discovered the store's newly revamped stationery aisle, plum with ultra-cute, ultra-affordable card sets, such as this blank trio from Mara-Mi ($3.99, set of 12) and charming thank you pack from Compendium ($6.99, set of six).
Target, 4380 Lawehana St., (808) 441-3118.

Lei Chic While working on a picnic gear story for one of our recent issues, I stumbled upon Décor Craft Inc.'s clever I Am A To-Go Box containers and ended up liking them so much that I bought a few as gifts. Modeled after classic Chinese take-out containers, they're made from soft-but-sturdy silicone and are both dishwasher and microwave safe. I can only imagine the oohs and ahhs you'd get when busting one of these babies out in the lunch room.
$14 each, Red Pineapple, Ward Centers, (808) 593-2733.

Lei Chic Usually pint glasses are logo-riddled numbers made with beer-guzzling guys in mind, so I was pleasantly surprised to come across these two from local artist Heather Brown topped with fun, artsy designs inspired by surf and sea.
$20, Greenroom Hawaii, 2350 Kalakaua Ave. #A6, (808) 924-4404.

Lei Chic Suspect: Stacey
Style Description: If Jonathan Adler and Kate Spade had a love child (okay, Simon Doonan can come along) - Preppy casual with a color explosion.

Lei Chic When it comes to my daughter's style, her future is not so bright. J. Crew's fun patterns and colors can't throw down against that cat who accessorizes with the same red bow or a Disney damsel dress. So when there's something pink, bright and twirl-friendly from the Crewcuts line, like this girl's apron dress, we've got a win-win situation with a happy ending.
$69.50, JCrew.com.

Lei Chic I was always tempted to buy one of those T-shirt scarf-lace accessories, but when I saw the layers of gumball colors and shapes on this sweet number by Saako, I couldn't resist the temptation. P.S. I have to give some props to my personal shopper CY for her super style eye.
$85, saakodesign.com.

Lei Chic Carnivores are flocking to The Whole Ox Deli and devouring the highly-recommended dry-aged burger, but a simple flexitarian, such as myself, loved the assortment of pre-mixed salad options. My summery three-course refresher included an up-beet salad with herbs, a light caprese concoction and a watermelon and tomato mixer.
$1.50-$2 for half-portions of salad, The Whole Ox Deli, 327 Keawe St., (808) 457-0997.

Lei Chic Suspect: Terri
Style Description: Classic, clean lines a la Kate Middleton with a pop of Rachel Zoe. Constant quest for the perfect fitted jacket and heels.

Lei Chic

I'm normally not one for flirty frocks, but I can't stop thinking about this Cabo dress from Tiare Hawaii's new summer line. I spotted the white version during a recent stroll through Waikiki and quickly fell in love with its beautifully draped silhouette and delicate metallic details.
$98, Aloha Aina Boutique, Royal Hawaiian Center.

Lei Chic Dax & Zan Jewelry designer, Kelley Martin, is so sweet. I spotted this gorgeous blue beach glass necklace at last week's Art & Flea, but couldn't wear the long chain that came with it. So she quickly swapped it for a shorter chain (now the perfect length!) and I've been wearing it ever since.
$10, Dax & Zan Jewelry.

Lei Chic I am extremely picky when it comes to burgers. A recent lunch at The Pineapple Room reaffirmed my opinion that its signature burger is hands down the best burger on the island. I love its juicy kiawe-grilled Kuahiwi Ranch beef, bacon, cheese, avocado salsa and - the ultimate topper - a crunchy spiced onion ring.
$16, The Pineapple Room, Macy's Ala Moana, 3rd Floor, (808) 945-6573.

Lei Chic Suspect: Christi
Style Description: Wants Michael Kors, Giuseppe Zanotti, and Phillip Lim to live in her closet (even though some of them have already come out) - Accessories addict with an urban tilt.

Lei Chic I've never been interested in buying a bookmark (hey, a post-it is free!) until myBookmark's creations swept me off my feet - bad pun intended. Besides this wicked witch, the Ukraine-based architect/designer offers leggy versions in Dorothy, paws, red-soled shoes, slippers, elf, cowboy, and many more.
$25 on myBookmark's etsy site. Shop now for 15 percent off which just about offsets shipping costs.

Lei Chic A lot of my friends still think it's just blazer city but I've been turning to Ann Taylor's latest collections for great neon, color blocked, and edgier pieces like my favorite platform sandals and skinny pants with zipper details. I'd pick up this leather and metal collar necklace and pair it with a slightly longer enamel pendant. Wait for the store's notorious 40 percent off sales.
$58, AnnTaylor.com online exclusive.

Lei Chic Gillia's been one of my favorite collections since we introduced Lei Chic readers to the new line last summer. When I spotted designer Saori Santos sporting this goldfish scalloped mini during a Collins & 8th event, it went on my "must-have" list. The embroidery is beautiful and I love the hemline - shorter in the front to show off that summer tan.
$136 on Gilliaclothing.com or in various stockists.
