What: Yeah, yeah, you’ve seen Hawaii ... but you haven’t seen it like this. The Eyes of Hawaii Photography Club is hosting its eighth annual photography exhibit showcasing images like the one above at the Hawaii State Library. Rediscover the Hawaii we’re all lucky to live in through these photographers’ eyes, and maybe get inspired to go snap a few pics yourself. After all, it is one of the most beautiful places in the world.
Where: Hawaii State Library, 478 S. King St.
When: Exhibit on display until May 29. Library hours are Tuesday, Friday, Saturday 9 a.m.–5 p.m., Wednesday 10a.m.–5 p.m., Monday 10 a.m.–5 p.m., Thursday 9 a.m.–8 p.m.
Details: Visit the Eyes of Hawaii exhibit Facebook page for details or call 586-3520.

Read
Be a Boss
What: Sophia Amoruso, founder, CEO and empress of online fashion empire Nasty Gal, has a new book out, appropriately named #Girlboss. Pick up a copy online to read the incredible, inspiring story behind one ultra-chic, unconventional woman's meteoric rise to success after a past of dumpster-diving and eBay-ing. Even better? You'll get a $25-off Nasty Gal promo code on orders of $75 or more when you order the book. And first dibs on using the soon-to-be-everywhere term “girlboss” about yourself.
Where: Nastygal.com
Details: The book is $23.95.

Eat
Brunch Bunch
What: What’s Mother’s Day without a gorgeous brunch celebrating the first-ever and foremost lady in your life? Check out Food and Dining Editor Martha Cheng’s roundup of the best places in Honolulu to celebrate this special Sunday.
Where: Read about it in Biting Commentary.
Details: Better make it special this year—it’s the 100-year anniversary of Mother’s Day, which was established in 1914.

Create
Get Crafty

What: Mom’s gotten tons of presents from you throughout the years: cute bags, classy jewelry, sensible beauty products. So why is her favorite still that macaroni picture that you made for her in grade school? Moms are suckers for the homemade. Luckily, CHAI Studio’s DIY card and bag workshop falls on the perfect day for you to whip up a one-of-a-kind super-special gift for her using their block prints that just scream personalized. Think of it as the macaroni picture of adults.
Where: CHAI Studio, Ward Warehouse, 1050 Ala Moana Blvd.
When: Sunday, May 11, 10 a.m.–2 p.m.
Details: Workshops are $5, bags $29 and cards $2. For more details call 536-4543.

Nominate
Rack Your Brain

What: Got a few undiscovered talents in your pocket? Racked.com is holding its second annual Racked Young Guns to search for the country's best up-and-coming designers. So if you have a super talented jewelry/clothing/accessories next-big-It designer hiding in your closet, submit their name in the contest—the fashion world wants to know about them! The winner will be picked by a panel of fashion industry experts and Racked will be presenting the entire process on its site. Ready, set, style!
Where: Racked.com
When: Nominations accepted through Tuesday, May 20
Details: Nominees must be based in the United State and be 35 years or older, unless their collection is less than two years old.

Watch
Dreadfully Good
What: Showtime, our favorite guilty pleasure go-to, is at it again with Penny Dreadful. A dark Victorian-era drama in the style of a psychological thriller, the show stars all those characters we love to fear from some of literature's greatest spook-tacular masterpieces: Frankenstein, The Picture of Dorian Grey and Dracula. You're promised the requisite gore and blood that any vampire- and monster-filled fest should have and—because it's Showtime—a good amount of raunch.
Where: Showtime
When: Show premieres on May 11 at 10 p.m.
Details: Check out Showtime’s free preview available May 9-11.

Learn
Tea Party
What: Immerse yourself in beauty with this week's Tour + Tea series at Honolulu Museum of Art. Following the theme Emotions in Art, the docent will lead you on a tour exploring everything from the love in Mary Cassatt's The Child's Caress to the hate in Cain Slaying Abel. The tour will be topped off with a discussion in the cafe over a glass of iced tea. It's the perfect refreshment for your mind, body and soul.
Where: Honolulu Museum of Art
When: Sunday, May 11 at 2:30 p.m.
Details: Free with museum admission. Admission is $10 for adults and free for members and children 17 and under. Get details at honolulumuseum.org.

Shop
Hearts and Crafts
What: Moms are basically the OG DIY-ers—they were crafting before it was cool. So what better way to celebrate her day than to take her down to the Kaneohe Bay Shopping Center's mini craft fair? As an extra bonus, there will also be prize wheel giveaways from Star 101.9 from 11 a.m.–1 p.m. Mom’s happy, and you have a chance to score prizes? We call that a win-win.
Where: Kaneohe Bay Shopping Center, 46-047 Kamehameha Highway, Kaneohe
When: Saturday, May 10, 10 a.m.–2 p.m.
Details: Visit kaneohebayshoppingcenter.com for more information.

Experience
Enlighten Up
What: Feeling lost in the Rat Race? Thank god for the weekend. This weekend you can join the folks at the Yogarden Hawaii Music Festival for a day of live music, gardening, permaculture, nutrition classes and, of course, yoga, to rediscover your spiritual center, get your body in line, and learn a few new things about life and the world around you. It’s almost enough to get you ready to face Monday.
Where: Green Rows Farm, 41-739 Mooiki St., Waimanalo
When: Saturday, May 10, 9 a.m.–10 p.m.
Details: To purchase tickets, visit yogardenhawaii.com.

Eat
Get a Clue
What: For the mom with a sense of humor and a passion for P.I.s, skip brunch and go for Dave and Buster's whodunnit Mother's Day Mystery Theater. A three-course lunch and a three-act comedic thriller will make her feel just like Jessica Fletcher (we know she's a Murder, She Wrote fan), and the fact that you're there playing sidekick to her sleuth will be the best Mother's Day gift of all.
Where: Dave and Buster's, 1030 Auahi St.
When: Sunday, May 11 at 12:30 p.m.
Details: $52 per person. For details, call 589-2215 or email hawaii_rep@daveandbusters.com.

The evening will include a Marrakech-style market on the Halekulani lawn, Rick's Cafe Americain in the ballroom, a luxe Moroccan-French dinner and, of course, jazz musical stylings. Tickets start at a hefty $500, but you can always do the budget version at your own gin joint (aka apartment) with some take-out Moroccan fusion and a Casablanca on-demand screening. Here's looking at you, kid.
