Open house pick of the week: Pearl City

People looking to live in Newtown seek it out for the family-friendly neighborhoods that epitomize suburban living: homes with fenced yards, close to schools, ample sidewalks, and a community recreation center.

If you’re shopping for a home this weekend and suburbia is on your agenda, check out this three bedroom, two-bath home on Kipaepae St. (Click here for details.) It’s nicely priced at $499,000; if you want to compare, there is a fixer-upper nearby for sale at $449,500 and one for $649,000.

Kipaepae is a private road, so the area is quiet and considered very safe—more so with the community neighborhood watch program. In back, you can access the main road, bus stops, the park, and rec center, which offers a pool, gym, game room, tennis court, basketball court, and organized sports.

The home is a little older at 32 years but has been upgraded with new paint, carpet, vinyl flooring, garage door opener and standing seam metal roof.

When you walk through the front door, you’ll find a huge living room (which looks larger due to the cathedral ceiling) that branches out to the other areas of the 1,193-square-foot home. The bedrooms are also large, and there’s an impressive amount of storage space.

Happy house hunting!

Money talk: $499,000 fee simple
