Convenient studio in Diamond Head

It’s not often I can write about a listing in Diamond Head at this price point. OK, OK,  it is a studio, but just being in this location is desirable. I have a few friends who rent in the neighborhood and they love the proximity to the beach–a surfer's dream!

This ground-floor studio at Diamond Head Sands, which hit the market last week, comes with a fresh coat of paint and new carpeting.

“It’s good for a first-time buyer or as a vacation home,” says realtor Dan Ihara of Coldwell Banker Pacific Properties. “Particularly for people who don’t want to be in Waikiki, but still want to be close to the beach.”

The 333-square-foot unit has a decent-sized lanai that helps open up the space. I also like how there are jalousie windows over the stove looking into the lanai. They give the kitchen an airy feel, plus will help cut down on the heat when you’re cooking meals.

The studio comes with one covered parking stall, but there’s so much within walking distance you may not find you’ll use your car too often. It scores a “very walkable” 77 on Walkscore.com. The beach, Kapiolani Park, Waikiki Aquarium, Honolulu Zoo and all the little shops and restaurants on Monsarrat Avenue are an easy 15 minutes (or less) away.

Fuzz factor: Sorry, no pets are allowed.

If you’d like to see it for yourself, there will be an open house this Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. Click here for details.

Money talk: $299,000 fee simple
