When realtor Judy Sobin bought this home on Kuapa Isle two years ago, she had no intention of moving again, so she put her heart into transforming the very plain, basic shell into a custom residence.
Now, however, Sobin’s family is growing again, so it’s time for them to move to a larger home on the marina, and some lucky new owner can move into a beautifully renovated waterfront home.
“We designed the renovations ourselves and lived through the demolition and rebuild … We built for ourselves sparing no expense,” Sobin says. “More importantly, we wanted to make sure we had large gathering places in our home so we could continue to entertain and assure the comfort of our family and guests.
“We wired inside the walls for our media, including music and surround sound. We also wired the lanai for speakers,” she adds. There’s also all-new electric wiring, plumbing and split air conditioning.

“We cleaned up the lanai but left it open. It is protected from the wind and rain and that is where we dine nightly, except during Kona storms,” Sobin explains. “The yard was a brick nightmare previously. We extended it, shaped it, widened the stairs to the water, created another level closer to the water, tiled with a porcelain, non-slip, American-manufactured tile and left a 3-foot strip for landscaping and herbs.”
The gourmet kitchen features under-counter lighting, stainless steel appliances, solid, custom cherry cabinets, built in pantry, and granite counters. The master bathroom continues the granite counter theme, as well as tile and glass to match.
