Upscale condo in Hawaii Kai

One of the most interesting aspects about this newly listed two-bedroom, two-bath condo at Kalele Kai is the floor. No, really.

Throughout the unit, you’ll find beautiful yellow pine hardwood that was originally reclaimed from a North Carolina bridge more than 100 years old. The wood has been processed to make the flooring durable.

The flooring was installed during a 2007 renovation (minus the bathrooms) with a nod toward "green" choices, which include the Hartman & Forbes sustainable fiber window shades and grasscloth wallpaper. The unit won an ASID design award that year for the remodel. Click here for details.

The spacious living room boasts a bold, deep red paint on the walls which may not be everyone's choice, but the 1,424-square-foot unit has been attractively staged by Kathy Norton of Design Management showing off its highlights.  A few potential buyers have already asked if the furniture is available for purchase with the property, according to realtor Tom Presler of Prudential Locations LLC. (You'll have to check with Norton.)

The open-design kitchen has granite countertops, ash cabinets and a convenient bar design, great for socializing. There’s also a small breakfast nook off the kitchen and a laundry room.

The floor plan is designed so the bedrooms are separated by the living room, affording more privacy for each, and along the length of the unit is a 263-square-foot lanai with views of Koko Head. If the breezes in the summer aren't enough to keep cool, rest easy, this place comes equipped with central air conditioning.

The master bathroom features a dual sink vanity, a shower and a separate soaking tub.

If you’re looking for a home office set up, the second bedroom offers built-in bookshelves and computer area.

The grounds at Kalele Kai in Hawaii Kai feel more like a resort than a condo community. Amenities include a pool and Jacuzzi, a clubhouse, a BBQ area and waterfront walking paths. Boat slips are available for sale, or at a reasonable monthly rent of $100.

Fuzz factor: You can bring along two furry friends, up to 30 pounds.

The price includes includes two covered parking stalls, and there’s ample space for guests. Watch a video tour here.

Money talk: $649,000 fee simple
