Revisiting Nuuanu Parkside

On a whim I thought I'd take a look at two of the available units for sale at Nuuanu Parkside, partly because units in this building are rarely available. In its heyday, the luxury condos at Nuuanu and Judd streets were the hot properties that everyone wanted to move into.

Understandably, people flock to the newest "flavors of the week" as newer condos are built. So on the rare occasion that a unit comes up for sale in older buildings like these on Nuuanu, they do stay on the market a little longer.

People who live in this condo cluster tend to be pretty stable and faithful to the neighborhood. I should know; I used to own a unit across the street, and when it was time to sell it was difficult to find enough similar units to get a good range of Comparative Market Analysis (CMA) reports to accurately figure out a fair price.

If you're looking for a nice unit with lots of space and a view but can't afford anything in the buildings downtown, take a look at Nuuanu Parkside. The two that I looked at each have two bedrooms and baths, with more than 1,000 square feet of living area. Unit 2301 has a 189-square-foot lanai and an amazing view; unit 704 has less of a view but has 346 square feet of lanai.

Although the galley kitchens in Parkside are small, the living areas, bedrooms and closets are big for condos. The big surprise was the huge bathrooms, especially the one with the washer/dryer in it.

Each floor only has four units, for a total of 78 in the whole building. Since there are so few units, the building provides a wine cellar and each unit is assigned its own wine locker. Don't believe me? See for yourself.

Other amenities include a private park, pool, gym and sauna. If you work downtown, it's a five-minute drive or a 20 minute walk (I actually timed this myself) so you can be close to the action, but just far enough outside of the fray to hear yourself think.
