Open house pick of the week: Hawaii Loa Ridge

I want to be clear that I’m not in the demographic of people who could afford a luxury home, but, after doing this blog for a while, I can spot a well-priced property even in the higher-priced echelons. Such is the case with this listing on Hawaii Loa Ridge.

It’s probably a combination of the home’s price and the fact that inventory is so low, but realtor Doug Shanefield had a hard time calling me right back about this property because his phone has been ringing off the hook since he listed it on Monday. (We finally connected at about 10 p.m., and he hadn’t had dinner yet.)

“It has all the things people are looking for: It’s contemporary, plus has a pool, yard, and an ocean view from almost every room,” Shanefield explains. “It’s exciting to have a new listing with so little inventory on the market with all these features at that price point. People know that this home will go quickly.”

The three-bedroom, 3.5-bathroom home was one of the earlier homes on Hawaii Loa Ridge, so the architect put a lot of thought into the design and layout—there are architectural features that make the home interesting, but not funky, and keep the home very useable.

“Everything is very open and airy, and the layout gives the home a good flow,” says Shanefield. “Everything is spacious, even the bedrooms, and the ceilings are high to make it visually larger.”

It looks like it’s three stories high, but the home actually sits above the garage to give it a better view. It has 3,751 square feet of living area on an 8,972-square-foot lot, with a gigantic living room on both floors. The family room on the ground level overlooking the pool, however, could be converted into a second master suite.
