Vivienne Westwood boutique opens in Waikiki
The British Invasion. Turns out it's bigger than we thought. Sneaky buggers.
Not that we're complaining - especially with the latest phenomenon to cross the pond, or in this case, two oceans.
Roll out the welcome mat for Vivienne Westwood's first Hawaii boutique, opening today in Moana Surfrider, A Westin Resort & Spa.
Just a few notes before you stop in. First, this place is exclusive - it's one of only two Vivienne Westwood boutiques in the entire country (Los Angeles has the other). Second, there's no validated parking. You'll need to consult our handy Waikiki parking guide, find street parking, or patronize another area of the hotel, like Veranda, The Beach Bar or Moana Lani Boutique.
Of course, you might not mind the inconvenience once you're sifting through racks of gorgeous pieces by one of England's most iconic designers, with Hawaii-exclusive jewelry and totes arriving next month. The 1,650-square-foot store houses three different lines, all grounded, but not overwhelmed, by the punk aesthetic that fueled Westwood's rise to fame - and an entire fashion movement - in the '70s.
To the right: Anglomania, a playful collection that channels England in the summertime - cozy knitted cardigans with pops of tangerine, textured chartreuse sailor shorts, cropped motorcycle jackets, and draped floral maxis. In the back: MAN, a men's collection with unique details - doodle-adorned khaki blazers, draped trousers with leather-anchored striped suspenders, and embossed bowler bags. By the dressing room: Red Label, a sharply-tailored series of wardrobe essentials fashioned after Europe's olden-day equestrian lifestyle - think assymmetrical pencil skirts, peaked-hem riding blazers, tartan wool jackets, and sequined peek-a-boo cocktail dresses.
Take some time to peruse the built-ins for glossy snakeskin bags or search the display case for Swarovski-encrusted armored knuckle rings. Then sit back and try on some bow-embellished Melissa slingbacks or buckled leather Pirate boots.
Consider that last one a reflection of your newfound treasures.
Open daily, 10 a.m.-10 p.m., in Moana Surfrider, A Westin Resort & Spa, 2365 Kalakaua Ave.
