Your colicky baby is crying again. She can’t sleep. She’s fussy. She can’t relax. And you’re ready to label yourself World’s Worst Mommy.
You need a massage.
Better yet, your baby needs a massage.
Purple Yoga in University Square offers an infant massage class for moms who want to bond with – and pamper – their newborns. It’s one of the few places on O‘ahu that offers an entire class specifically on infant massage.
The four-week class – led by Kelly Conaway, a doula and licensed massage therapist whose specialty is for pregnancy, birth and babies – starts on Jan. 9.
For babies, massage improves circulation and digestion, reduces fussiness, helps them learn to relax, and improves their sleep (which is also therapeutic for mom).
Massage can also teach infants where body parts are in relation to each other, and it can stimulate right- and left-brain development and coordination. It can even strengthen the immune system and improve GI tract functioning, helping to soothe tummy aches (and the long crying spells that go with them).
And that’s something even you can go googoo gaga for.
