Play Dress Up(do)

How to create an easy, elegant updo in just 10 minutes

Monique Lhuillier x Moroccanoil

Fantasy: Having five hours to get ready for your big night out. Reality: Having five minutes to get ready for your big night out. Where fantasy-meets-reality: Spending five (okay, 10) minutes to create an enchanting hairstyle that everyone thinks took hours to do.

Yes, this dream can come true, thanks to Moroccanoil artistic director Antonio Corral Calero. Today, the mastermind behind the ethereal, braided updos showcased in Monique Lhuillier's Fall 2014 Bridal Collection runway show shares his very real, and surprisingly easy, backstage tips (no wedding required).

The finished look! As seen in Monique Lhuillier's Fall 2014 Bridal Collection runway show.

[Note: For best results, mastering the French braid is recommended, though a similar twist technique works too.]

Prep: Apply a treatment oil from mid-length to ends and a texture or volume spray throughout the hair. Blow dry using your fingers to lift, detangle and separate strands. When hair is completely dry, apply a molding cream for additional texture, focusing on the crown. Try Moroccanoil Root Boost, $29.

Step 1: Comb all the hair toward the back of the head and create three large parts: right, left and back. Hair can be parted at the right, left or center as desired.

Step 2: Braid each of the three parts. In this look, the right and left sides are inward French braids and the middle braid is a standard braid that begins at the nape of the neck.

Step 3: Pull the left and right braids around the back of the head and wrap several times around the back braid. (Depending on hair length, they should wrap about halfway down the back braid.)

Step 4: Pin the bottom part of the braid inwards, toward the nape, to create a chignon.

Step 5: For a more romantic and uneven look, gently pull and open each braid slightly within the chignon.
