Fashion at Fishcake to showcase local designers, photographers
Photographs by Sergio Goes (top) and Daniela Voicescu (bottom) are also on display.
Good things usually come in threes. Musketeers. Stooges. Amigos.
And Fashion at Fishcake, an evening that celebrates the creative trifecta of fashion, film and photography. Tomorrow night, as part of Hawaii Fashion Month, you'll be able to view the work of 14 alumni from the University of Hawaii at Manoa's Fashion Design and Merchandising Program and Honolulu Community College's Fashion Technology Program. (Check out our preview below!)
Plus, catch a screening of Provocateur, a documentary that explores the life and influence of legendary fashion photographer Helmut Newton, presented by local photographer and Newton mentee Mark Arbeit. And, admire the stunning fashion photography currently on display by local photographers Sergio Goes, Chris McDonough and Daniela Voicescu.
By the way, admission is absolutely free, which, technically, puts us at four good things. Oh well. The more, the merrier.
1// Jennifer Fukino (UHM 2010)
"My pieces are inspired by the complex simplicity of modern architecture and the incorporation of wood and nature in the interior and exterior design."
2// Sera Brand (HCC 2013)
"Moon Child is the darker side from my first collection, Gypsy Summer. I use black gauze and velvet fabrics to create a collection that has a black magic bohemian look."
3// Mari Nakamura (UHM 2013)
"I'm showing two looks from my Duality collection, which focuses on outerwear using leathers and furs. I like the contrast of using different textures and materials in a garment."
4// Bryant Des-Brisay (UHM 2011)
"Aloha Redux is a line that attempts to transform the Aloha shirt, to make it more refined and abstract with a streetwear-style aesthetic."
5// Ryan Hanaoka (UHM 2012)
"For this collection, I stuck with a neutral palette and focused on classic, versatile pieces for a clean fresh look."
6// Matt Bruening (UHM 2009)
"Morning View casts beautiful rich colors of rust and neutral tones along with a print that imitates the transition of the sky when the sun appears and later hides behind the horizon."
7// Jaclyn Mae Santos (UHM 2011)
"The inspiration for Trouble in Paradise is all about tortured romance, surrealism and religious artwork. I want to offer an edgier, modern, powerful vibe."
8// Virginia Paresa (UHM 2008)
"The showing will simply be a mish-mash of everything I'm coveting for my closet right now: basketball jerseys, mini skirts and fun dresses."
9// Ian Ramos (HCC 2013)
"Btchcraft is a word I came up with, a humorous play on witchcraft. It inspired me to make this line all black and sheer with pleather and gold."
