Bear Necessities

Hula Hoops Maui carves new direction with bear claw jewelry

It's no secret, you'll totally claw your way to the top of the style pyramid.

Hula Hoops Maui's chunky bear claw jewelry will definitely help. Haiku-based designer Laurie Olsen created a 14k-gold-vermeil adjustable bear claw cuff, matching mini studs and a 19-inch, goldfill-chain necklace for a bold, statement-making set.

These new designs just scratch the surface of Olsen's plans to branch out from her island-inspired Tahitian pearl and puka shell jewelry. Seek out more fashion-forward styles, like adjustable gold vermeil and sterling silver knuckle rings - a V-shaped ring that can be worn alone or stacked and a sleek, double-knuckle cuff.

Each piece is modern, yet not overly trendy, and, as always, expertly crafted.

We call it a roaring success.

Hula Hoops Maui jewelry is available online and in several local boutiques, including La Muse, 1156 Nuuanu Ave., and Silver Moon Emporium, North Shore Marketplace, on Oahu. Photos: Hula Hoops Maui.
